So im taking the trash out, and I hear a loud thunk, then another thunk, then a horn stuck on. I live close enough to a highway intersection to know the sound of a wreck. I call 911, grab my wallet and drive over. Some guy plowed into a guard rail at 65mph. his work truck is spun around and all his crap is in the street. 3 wheels are busted and theirs diesel on the ground. By this time the 911 operator has me on the phone w/ the sheriff's dept. I put my truck in position to block both lanes pointing my headlights at this idiots truck. I walk over and make sure he's ok. He asks if I called anyone because he doesn't want help and his cousin is a tow truck driver. I told him just fire dept. He goes back to his truck and starts picking shit up. then he comes back again and asks if i called the cops. This guy is slurring his speech... be it from the wreck or from drinking, I dont know. I told him fire dept again. Guy gets agitated.

Here I am, going out of my way to make sure he's ok, and protect him from getting hit by another car with my car, and HE's getting agitated. Finally a cop shows up. I fill him in. A second cop shows up, and I don't need to block the road anymore. I leave.

The guy was obviously drunk, and probably didn't have any insurance. Its a good thing the 911 dispatch heard me get into my car, and the car dings while driving over there so he couldn't make a story up that I caused it.

Its a sad world when you try and help someone and you have to cover yer ass just in case they try and spin a tale.

I got this email recently, and I enjoyed it enough to share here....

Here's something sent to me that we can all of us do. Let's NOT sit on our duffs and ignore the problem that the idiots in D.C. have made for all of us. It's not a big move, but it sure will get attention... we hope. If not, at least we've lowered the bill for Tea at the White House!! LOL (I hope they like tea....hee hee!!).

There's a storm abrewin'. What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don't work for them. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer.

Sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan? Sick of Congress raking CEO's over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes? Sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on our tax dollar? Sick of being told it is OUR responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house than they could afford? I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes.

I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don't ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all.

O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won't make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!! If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the wreckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and "stimulate" without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA. There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.

So, here's the plan. On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEABAG to Washington , D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just a TEABAG. Many cities are organizing protests. If you simply search, "New American Tea Party", several sites will come up. If you aren't the 'protester' type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG. Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way. Yes, something needs to be done but the lack of confidence as shown by the steady decline in the stock market speaks volumes.

This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the 'New American Tea Party' and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1. Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15. Will you do it? I will..

Send it to; 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington , D.C. 20500 .

Forward this to everyone in your address book. Visit the website for more information about the 'New American Tea Party'. I would encourage everyone to go ahead and get the envelope ready to mail, then just drop it in the mail April 1. Can't guarantee what the postage will be by then, it is going up as we speak, but have your envelope ready. What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp.
What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years. It is not too late.

Of course, if you agree with the way things are being done now, just delete!!!!!

No one ever states if its based on "completed application submittal" or the "web application" time. One might assume they have your info and will do their checks while you complete the course, but we all know a government entity isn't efficient. I'll assume my time stared 2/7/09.

I have one pet left, a cute little cat. I still have the cat genie from a couple years ago... wow. When it works its awesome. when its breaks, its a pain in the ass. Pet Innovations support is great, except for the fact when you ask things like "how do i tell it to dry" or "how do i tell it to just drain." They refuse to give up their little tech codes, like its national security. So I've decided to post what I have so far.... If you know any more, feel free to drop me a line and I'll update:

1) Unplug
2) Press and hold both buttons and plug in at the same time. Keep holding for 10-15secs after power is restores
3) The lights will cycle from 4 lights to 1
4) Press and release the auto-setup until lights 4 and 1 are on (this should require 4 presses)
5) Press start to start the cycle

Codes I have so far:
4-1: Drain (you must toggle it off when done)
4-2: Air on -no bowl spin (you must toggle it off when done)
4-3: Rinse-Drain-Air/Dry Cycle (unit will reset to normal after this)

There are a couple more like "Run water" and "Dispense solution" But I cant remember them offhand.

Got cingular? call them up, say "i want the service credit for mt blackberry outtage." My rep had no idea what I was saying so I followed up with "It was on a company memo last week." After waiting on hold for 5 mins, she came back w/ a $30 credit. I wont complain, April 18th hasnt been my only outage. heres the link where I found the memo:

http://consumerist.com/consumer/blackberry/cingulars-blackberry-users-can-request-credit-for-service-outage-254274.php

So while on the phone, I asked about the outage I had on sunday morning, 8am-12:30pm. She searched like 5 diff databases and nothing. She asked me if I was having a problem now, to which I answered "No, I'm fine now, and I know you want me to call in when the problems occur so you can diagnose, but this happens on the weekends or after hours, so i'd like a way to report it, so you know whats going on and to get it fixed. I dont need tech support, I know it was the network." So I'm on hold another 10 mins, and she comes back and says to call after hours and get ahold of the after hour support. what after hour support, is there some special keycode? WTF? Anyways, I told her i will be logging each outtage and calling in the next business day until this gets resolved. Then she tells me that there is an issue w/ BB and edge. all other pda's are fine, its something w/ BB. I dont buy it.

As you may know from reading my blog, my wife and I got new phones. Stunningly enough, both use the same power adapters.... so it seems. The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 and MotorolaRAZR V3xx both have miniUSB connectors, both came with computer USB cables for data/charging. both came with wall outlets. (I boght an iGo juice70 a couple years ago while out of town, so I tend to keep the proper tips around now.) So its safe to assume you should be able to find one iGo tip for both phones at this point.

Wrong, there are three:

http://www.igo.com/product.asp?sku=2634264
http://www.igo.com/product.asp?sku=2701879
http://www.igo.com/product.asp?sku=2709463

Dont bother calling support and asking what the difference is, you'll get the standard line "Each tip is custom made for each device" Just a little bit of googling and I found this:

I have an iGo unit and have used the A29 blackberry tip and the A32 RAZR tip. On the back of the tips at radioshack, you'll notice that the A29 is 5.0V at .6 Amps, and the A32 is 5.0 volts .9 Amps. I don't know what the A53 tip has becuse they don't carry it at the shack yet. I do know that both tips do charge my 8125 with no problems. The RAZR tip is faster, as it's higher current. One thing to keep in mind is that if you use the RAZR tip, you'll be able to use it to charge newer moto BT headsets as well without blowing them up. --morrias

So basically:
A29 for Blackberry............. 5.0V @ 0.6A
A32 for Moto RAZR.............. 5.0V @ 0.9A
A53 for Cingular 8125......... 5.2V @ 1.2A

So obviously all will work, A29 has more of a trickle than A53. So less battery heat on charge. If you've used your wife's RAZR adapter on your Blackberry, A32 should be fine..... but dont try and sue me for writing this, I'm not liable for your experimentation.

UPDATE: My blackberry wall unit says: 5v @ 0.75A. Wifes RAZR wallunit says: 5v @ 0.55A. wow, iGo really messed this one up.

How you might ask? There's this term I like to use "Customer Service Roulette." Basically, you call customer service, complain that there are no deals for existing customers, only new customers. new customers can get a Pearl for $149 at t-mobile, what's stopping me from going there? Not a contract anymore. And your loyalty is never appreciated. 90% of the time you'll basically get a "who cares." So hang up and call back. After about 3 hours of this (mind you, about half of that 3 hrs was holding), I went through about four representatives. the fifth was the answer. She played the same card as the previous four, but then she said "There's nothing I can do for you, however I could transfer you to the retention department If you'd like to cancel your account." At first I thought "How rude!" but then I realized... these phone calls are recorded and monitored. She just gave me the out I was looking for. before she transfered me I asked for the direct number just in case I lost connection... she said to just call back and have them refer to the notes. Sorry, no easy out for you readers.

So I thanked her for her help and regretted having to have cancel my account. Once I got to a rep in the retention department, i used the same script

"My phone is dying, I've tried all the recommended fixes, but I just want a new phone now. I've been with Cingular/att wiress since 1997 and I'd like to see if you can find me a decent rate."

I got the usual stuff the previous five reps told me, so I took it up a notch

"As a new Cingular customer, you offer people deals to join, yet you dont offer anything for existing loyal customers. What exactly is keeping me here?"

She looked at my account and noted the contract expired in December. I got an "I'm sorry sir, I cant help you". So I took it up another notch.

"T-Mobile is offering a Blackberry Pearl for $149 and a RAZR for free. I can cancel today and just go there. they have a cheaper blackberry plan and free "in 5". You're telling me you cant offer me anything?"

She asked to put me on hold. After 10 mins she came back with a counter offer of $219 for the BB and $79 for the RAZR.

"See, thats still not "free" for the RAZR and not $149 for the BB."

She asked to put me on hold again. After about 15 mins I got another offer. $189 plus a $50 rebate and $50 plus a $50 rebate.

"What about these $19 per line activation charges and shipping? They offer free activation and shipping"

Got the hold routine again, this time for only 5 minutes. She was able to waive the charges and offer me free overnight DHL.

"See, thats free. Lets me confer with my wife and make sure she wants the RAZR. Can you note my account so I can call back and start where we left off?"

So she noted the account and thanked me for my service. Four hours of being a jerk can really get to ya. So I took a walk, then talked to Susan about it. she did some research and said the RAZR was fine. However there was once catch. They said "V3" which is very vague. there are so many subversions.

So I called back to place the order, however I got them to clarify the RAZR. It was the std V3. I got them to let me upgrade to the V3xx for the price diff, which was onyl $20. not bad for a better phone w/ an SD card.

I placed the order on Friday night, 3/2. I got my DHL on Tuesday morning 3/6. Too bad overnight doesnt cover weekends!

So, the moral of THIS story is... play it nice at first, if you dont get what you want, become a jerk (not irate jerk) and threaten to cancel. Sure, I had to agree to a 2yr contract, but who cares, not like I'm going anywhere!

whats your experience with your customers getting their rebates. I've
found various sites where inphonic doesnt honor rebates for various
things unrelated to the submission itself.

http://www.ripoffreport.com/results.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search!&q5=InPhonic&Search=Search

Also, reading further, it states people dont even get rebated for 6
months due to the high churn of customers otherwise (which makes sense
from a business standpoint):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InPhonic

These are the kinda things I was leary of.

Your partners, about us, and contact us pages are blank. There is no
terms/conditions link on your site.

Seems like a cool deal to be an affiliate, and its free why not, but
not disclosing the now obvious 6 month wait for a rebate is kinda
lame. I'll havwe to sleep on wheather paying $100 more now, or
waiting 6 months for $200, which may or may not even come, is worth
it. thanks for your help.

-----
And the reply with no attempt to lure me in... loser:

I have had no complaints. I have had my dealer site for over a year now. Generally rebates are not honored because they were not properly filled out from online or in stores. I run a arper in upstate ny as well.

So the moral of the story is.... not all 3rd Party vendors are bad, InPhonic is.
